Felled

This is a series of small stone lithographs drawn using number 4 (medium) litho crayons. These were produced on my MA as part of my final project and came from my time spent in Ashton Court photographing, drawing and experiencing trees, plants and the atmosphere of the estate. I was drawn to a small wood where this series predominantly came from and gave rise to the Underfoot series of prints which looks at details we walk on by, essential processes in the ecosystem including death and regrowth, decomposition and new life. This image records a felled log in the woods at Ashton Court in a damp shaded environment, surrounded by undergrowth and dead leaves on the ground. Life comes from the log which will be broken down by fungi and the nutrients will be distributed around the ecosystem.

Choose from a print on pale cream, smooth Simili Japon 130gsm, a paper that takes the ink readily and so produces a darker print, or Fabriano 284gsm, a softer cotton and cellulose paper that prints with more detail, but a little lighter and more delicately than the Simili.
