About Soma Gallery
I established Soma Gallery in 2004, initially as a shop and gallery in a small unit in Clifton Arcade, Bristol. An e-commerce website followed in 2005. In 2010 I moved to a much larger two storey premises over the road which had a separate shop space and gallery space. This space also had a print studio installed a few years later. In 2017, I closed the physical shop and gallery to concentrate on the online side of the business as well as to exhibit in pop ups and fairs.
My goal when I set up Soma was to showcase and sell the amazing artwork being created by artists, designers and illustrators, and at that time (2004) the work wasn’t really being showcased. Before social media and before every artist had a website, it was hard to find really interesting, different artwork. Online there were blogs and offline there were magazines. Shops and galleries weren’t really representing these artists on a large scale either. They did exist, but far fewer than now, and mostly in London. So there was a hole, and that’s where Soma came in!
Over the years I have worked with some fantastic artists, some I still work with today, including (a very small selection) Rob Ryan, Tatty Devine, Anthony Burrill, Jon Burgerman, Ceri Amphlett, Lucy Vigrass, Jenny Bowers, Tom Frost, Spencer Wilson, Andy Smith, Daisy Hirst, Otto, Lisa Jones Studio, Ben Newman, Peski Studio and countless others!
Soma has had over 40 exhibitions featuring a wide range of artists and artwork. We have exhibited in London at Pick Me Up twice (2012 & 2013), hosted workshops (Tatty Devine jewellery making, screen printing), Book Launches (Amelia’s Magazine, Tatty Devine), editioning projects (10 year anniversary edition), curated for Not Another Bill, hosted Lionheart Magazine Quiz and many more!
Soma has a reputation for high quality beautifully made prints and other handmade items. Currently the business is concentrating on the print side, showcasing a fantastic range of handmade limited edition prints.
