Underfoot Stone Lithographs

This is a series of small stone lithographs drawn using number 4 (medium) crayons. Prints feature nettles and other plants on the floor of the woods in Ashton Court, detail from a sun bleached dead log, a rotting log with ivy and mycena fungi, and a felled or fallen tree in the woods.

These are printed on two paper stocks with very different properties: Simili Japon 150gsm and Fabriano Rosaspina 285gsm. Both are fabulous papers for stone lithography but are very different. Simili Japon is a cream smooth thin paper and takes the ink really well. It produces a higher contrast print as seen in the first 4 images. Fabriano Rosaspina is printmaking paper that contains cotton. This paper is the bianco version which is a warm white colour. It takes the ink differently and prints a wider tonal range. It looks more like the original crayon drawing than the Simili Japon.

This series was created on my MA which is why I have experimented with two paper colours. The prints are available to buy from my Store.
